Malayalam film Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey, starring Basil Joseph and Darshana Rajendran, released in 2022. It gained much attention due to its catchy storyline revealing the harsh reality of patriarchal society that is still lying under the covers. The movie was a massive hit and caught the attention of many Bollywood stars, including Aamir Khan. Soon after its release, speculations were rife about a Hindi remake under Aamir Khan’s production house.
According to reporters, Aamir Khan faced casting hurdles for a Hindi remake. Actor Azees Nedumangad, sharing the challenges they faced while casting for the remake, said, “They struggled to find Bollywood actors who could do justice to the supporting roles. At one point, they even thought of retaining the actress who played the mother in the Malayalam version and considered bringing back other original cast members as well.”
Directed by Vipin Das, Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey is black comedy satirical film.. The movie follows the life of Jaya, a middle-class girl, limiting her life according to her parents, without her wish, as they control her life in the name of protecting her. Jaya wants to complete her education, but due to a turn of events and various mishaps, she gets married to Rajesh, a poultry farm owner.
Rajesh is a short-tempered man. When he comes to know of Jaya’s desire to continue her studies, he mockingly asks her to try for the public service commission exam.
Jaya soon gets fed up of Rajesh’s behaviour and domestic abuse, and finally decides to fight for herself as she learns karate. The rest of the movie is about a comical family drama that continues to give a societal message.
