Hollywood actor, famous for his role in ‘Bonnie and Clyde’, Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy have been found dead in their New Mexico home, the BBC reported on Thursday. Hackman was 95 and his wife was 63.
The Santa Fe County Sheriff in New Mexico confirmed the news in a statement. “We can confirm that both Gene Hackman and his wife were found deceased Wednesday afternoon at their residence on Sunset Trail,” the statement said, reported BBC.
The police said that although it is an active investigation but as of now there is no indication of any foul play.
Hackman is considered to be one of the Hollywood legends. Some of his noteworthy roles include Jimmy “Popeye” Doyle in ‘The French Connection’, and the other is ‘Little Bill Daggett’ in ‘Unforgiven’. Hackman won the Oscar for bothe roles. His other Oscar-nominated roles include Buck Barrow in ‘Bonnie and Clyde’ which was also his breakthrough role.
His last role on the big screen was that of Monroe Cole in ‘Welcome to Mooseport’ in 2004.
Hackman was born in California in 1930. He joined the army at 16 by lying about his age and served for four and a half years, reported BBC. The report further said that after his service, he briefly lived in New York before deciding to become an actor.
Hackman also joined the Pasadena Playhouse in California, where he became friends with a young Dustin Hoffman.
He once said that he was trained to be an actor and not a star. “I was trained to play roles, not to deal with fame and agents and lawyers and the press,” he had said. He had expressed how emotional it was for him to watch himself on-screen.
