International Emmy Awards nominations 2025: Diljit Dosanjh and his Netflix series Amar Singh Chamkila earned a double nomination in the Best Performance by an Actor and TV Movie/Mini-Series categories at the 53rd International Emmy Awards, to be held in New York on November 24, 2025. After adding yet another feather in his cap, the Punjabi actor expressed gratitude and happiness on an Instagram story, crediting his director for the feat. “It’s all because of Imtiaz Ali, sir @netflix_in.”
Imtiaz Ali, also congratulated the actor on Instagram saying, “Making us proud @dilijitdosanjh!!! So well deserved.”
The Imtiaz Ali directorial based on the life of Amar Singh Chamkila, also known as the Elvis Presley of Punjab, is all set to shine on the global stage, after securing a spot among 16 categories.
Parineeti Chopra reacts to the double Emmys nomination
Parineeti Chopra, who starred opposite Diljit Dosanjh, playing the singer’s second wife Amarjot Kaur took to social media to congratulate the team of the movie. “WOOOHOOOO! Proud of my Team Chamkla!”
The 2025 International Emmy Best Actor nominees include David Mitchell for ‘Ludwig,’ Oriol Pla for ‘Yo, Adicto (I, Addict),’ and Diego Vasquez for ‘One Hundred Years of Solitude.’
What Amar Singh Chamkila is about
Directed by Imtiaz Ali, the film set in 1980s tells the story of Punjab’s iconic folk singer Amar Singh Chamkila, who gained fame and attention for his teasing and double meaning lyrics.
The singer was shot along with his wife by unidentified assailants in 1988 while coming out of his car for a performance. The case could never be solved.
Based on the popular singer’s life, the Netflix film, written by Imtiaz Ali and Sajid Ali was released in April 2024.
The film was widely watched by the viewers as the it emerged as the most-watched Hindi streaming film of 2024 as per analyst firm Ormax Media’s “Streaming Originals in India – Mid-Year Review” report.
