After non-starters last week, this week we see the release of Dibakar Banerjee’s whodunit movie ‘Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!’ featuring Sushant Singh Rajput, and this latest release too has disappointed with its initial box office collections.
Though Bollywood seldom sees films in this genre, general audience anticipation and expectation have been low.
Reports from across the country suggest that the film has opened on a rather slow note with occupancy rate of 20%.
A major factor that has sorely dampened the ‘Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!’ business prospects is the Hollywood release ‘Fast and Furious 7’ that opened to a bumper start. In fact, the opening of ‘Fast and Furious 7’ can easily be compared to that of any big budgeted Bollywood film featuring heavy weight names.
On the whole, ‘Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!’ has a tough road ahead and will have to rely heavily on good word of mouth. On the other hand, ‘Fast and Furious 7’ that has received good reviews is currently riding high has the added advantage of the audience sympathy with the passing away of lead star Paul Walker.
