British band Coldplay wrapped up their electrifying India tour with a grand finale that will go down in history. The band revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that their Sunday night concert at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium drew a staggering crowd of 1,34,000 fans—making it the largest ticketed concert in Indian history. This smashed previous records by a margin of over 60,000 attendees.
Coldplay, fronted by the charismatic Chris Martin, captivated fans across India with five unforgettable gigs as part of their Music of the Spheres World Tour. The tour included three shows in Mumbai and two back-to-back concerts in Ahmedabad. The finale on Sunday was not only a milestone for Indian concerts but also became Coldplay’s largest concert ever, surpassing their November 2023 performance in Sydney, which saw 83,000 attendees.
Beating the likes of Justin Bieber and Diljit Dosanjh
Coldplay’s record-breaking attendance dwarfs previous benchmarks set by global and local superstars. Justin Bieber’s 2017 concert at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai drew an estimated 50,000–65,000 fans, while Punjabi sensation Diljit Dosanjh’s Dil-Luminati Tour in December 2024 attracted 50,000 people in Chandigarh.
The Narendra Modi Stadium, with its colossal seating capacity of over a lakh, gave Coldplay a unique advantage. Fans even packed the stadium ground, a rare feat not possible during cricket matches, allowing a capacity close to 1.4 lakh.
A star-studded affair
Coldplay’s India tour wasn’t just about the music; it became a hotspot for celebrities. Bollywood stars like Shreya Ghoshal, Suhana Khan, Navya Nanda Naveli and Kajal Aggarwal graced the Mumbai concerts, while cricketer Jasprit Bumrah cheered them on in Ahmedabad. Adding to the excitement, the Ahmedabad concert was streamed live on Disney+ Hotstar, giving fans across the country a front-row experience.
Coldplay’s legacy in India
With these record-shattering performances, Coldplay has not only won Indian hearts but also set a new benchmark for live concerts in the country. As fans bask in the afterglow of their spectacular shows, one thing is certain: Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres World Tour will be remembered as a game-changer in India’s live music scene.
