Just days after news broke of Ayushmann Khurrana’s departure from Sunny Deol’s Border 2, the filmmakers revealed that Varun Dhawan will be joining the cast, expanding the ensemble for the highly anticipated sequel.
Dhawan used social media to reveal that he will be appearing in the eagerly anticipated 1997 war movie sequel. During a Border montage in the introduction video, Varun’s voiceover said, “Hindustan ka fauji hoon main (I am an Indian soldier).”

Varun Dhawan on his Instagram post wrote, “I was just a kid in class four when I went to Chandan cinema and saw Border. And it made such a big impact. I still remember the national pride we all felt in the hall. I began looking up to our armed forces and to this day, I salute how they protect us and keep us safe be it on our borders or during natural calamities.”
He further added that J P Dutta sir’s war epic remains one of his most favourite movies till date. “To play a part in Border 2 produced by J P sir and Bhushan Kumar is a very, very special moment in my career. And I get to work with Sunny Paaji my hero makes it all the more special. I look forward to bringing a valiant Jawaan’s story to screen in what promises to be India’s biggest war film,” he added.
Border 2 release date
This addition is expected to increase the buzz around the much-awaited movie from producers Bhushan Kumar and JP Dutta. Border 2 is presented by Gulshan Kumar, T-Series, and JP Dutta’s J.P. Films. The movie is scheduled to have its world premiere on January 23, 2026.
The announcement of Border 2 was revealed by Sunny Deol in June this year. “Ek fauji apne 27 saal purane waade ko pura karne, aa raha hai phirse,” he said in his announcement.

Directed by Anurag Singh, known for his work on Akshay Kumar’s Kesari (2019), Border 2 is the much-anticipated sequel to J.P. Dutta’s 1997 hit Border, which also starred Sunny Deol. The film is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, J.P. Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta, and is scheduled for release on January 23, 2026.
