Covid-19 April 3 Latest News: The coronavirus wave seemed to have ebbed across India with consistently low numbers being reported for over a week now. India is among those nations that have bucked the global trend of new spike in the new infections that are being witnessed in neighbouring China as well as in Europe as well. Here are the latest Covid19 updates that you should know:

India detected little over 1,000 cases on Sunday. The daily health bulletin says that the country saw 1,096 new coronavirus infections.

The Covid fatalities remain on higher side. For second consecutive day, India reported more than 80 Covid deaths. The official data says that 81 people succumbed to coronavirus-related complications in the last 24 hours.

In terms of active case count, India witnessed further reduction of over 400 cases on Sunday. At present, India has 13,013 active Covid cases, the government bulletin says.

Neighbouring China, however, continues to report high number of daily Covid cases. Today’s data suggests that China recorded over 13,000 new coronavirus infections. This is the most that the country has seen since the first wave of the pandemic peaked in 2020.

Shanghai, which remains under lockdown, is seeing new surge. In terms of daily numbers, Shanghai reported 438 symptomatic cases whereas the number of patients with no symptoms was recorded at 7,788. China’s Covid policy says that the asymptomatic patients won’t be counted in the overall Covid tally.

Meanwhile, in good news for the BTS fans, band member Jungkook has completely recovered from Covid-19. The BTS management agency says that Jungkook along with other band members will perform at the Grammys.

For those who may have a thought about pandemic ending, here’s the latest warning by the World Health Organization. A new viral mutant dubbed as XE variant of the novel coronavirus has been detected, which is said to the most transmissible variant discovered. A recombinant strain of the novel coronavirus, XE variant is result of Omicron BA.1 and BA.2 recombination. Researchers say that it is too early to say whether this variant can escape the vaccine or not.
