Despite 67% of the professionals in India being willing to change their jobs, they struggle when it comes to searching for the job titles and sectors that suit their profiles, a new research by professional networking platform LinkedIn said. However, the willingness to grab new opportunities is not yielding favourable results as almost five in 10 (49%) people say that they’re applying to more jobs than ever, but “hearing back less” from the potential employers.
“While the desire for purposeful growth is clear, finding the right opportunity remains a challenge,” the research noted while listing out the top three ways the Indian professionals define progress today which include learning something new, taking the next step with confidence, and finding a role that truly fits.
The research said that the job seekers are increasingly preferring easier ways to find opportunities based on their skills rather than searching on the basis of predefined titles and keywords. “Sixty-five percent of professionals in India say they can explain their career goals to a friend but don’t know how to search for that role, and 64% find job filters confusing. Another 74% say they wish they could discover relevant roles they hadn’t thought to search for,” it added.
In order to help young professionals with their job searches, LinkedIn recently came out with 2025 Grad’s Guide that shows that the non-traditional career choices are picking up with Gen Zs. For instance, community & social services has emerged as the fastest-growing function that graduates across both Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes are entering today. That’s because careers in social work and community engagement offer Gen Z an opportunity to directly address societal issues and create a positive impact.
Following community & social services, functions like marketing and human resources have taken the top slots highlighting a shift towards roles that blend creativity, people-centricity, and business impact.
According to Linkedin’s 2025 Grad’s Guide report, top roles for the bachelor’s degree holders include placement coordinator, generative AI engineer, and influencer marketing specialist, with demand rising across utilities, government administration, and consumer services functions. Among master’s degree holders, scientific assistant and visual designer roles are in demand, particularly in education, real estate, and healthcare job functions.
