The Jammu and Kashmir Home department on Tuesday announced that they have finally referred over 4,000 vacancies for police constable positions to the Services Selection Board, ending a four-year wait.
The last advertisement for constable positions in the Jammu and Kashmir Police dates back to 2019. Now, approximately 4,022 posts are being advertised, aimed at bolstering the constable ranks within the force. This move is crucial as the police force plays a pivotal role in conducting counter-insurgency operations in the Union Territory.
A spokesperson said, “This will greatly help in reinforcing the capability of law enforcement to effectively address various security challenges and maintain peace and order.”
When will the recruitment begin?
The department spokesperson said that this initiative would not only improve the overall security infrastructure of Jammu and Kashmir but also generate employment prospects for the local youth. The Jammu and Kashmir Police had been grappling with a shortage of manpower due to the lack of recruitment at the constable level, which had adversely impacted operational readiness and service delivery.
The spokesperson mentioned that the Services Selection Board (SSB) would soon conduct the recruitment process for aspiring candidates. This step, he noted, underscores the government’s determination to provide employment opportunities for local youth. Furthermore, it reaffirms the government’s commitment to fortify law enforcement agencies and ensure the safety and security of the region’s inhabitants.
