The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released specific guidelines for the JEE Main 2025 examination aimed at candidates categorised as Persons with Disabilities (PwD) and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD). These guidelines address common inquiries regarding the use of scribes and the provision of extra time for candidates with disabilities.

According to the official notification, candidates with disabilities will be given an additional hour, increasing the total exam duration from three hours to four. This extra hour is provided to ensure that PwD and PwBD candidates have sufficient time to complete the test. Candidates eligible for the use of a scribe must present appropriate certification documents to avail of this facility.

The notification emphasises that the term “extra time” should be updated to “compensatory time.” This compensatory time will not be less than 20 minutes per hour for candidates permitted to use a scribe, reader, or lab assistant. Even if the candidate does not use a scribe, those with benchmark disabilities are entitled to a minimum additional hour for a three-hour examination.

For exams lasting less than an hour, the compensatory time is adjusted on a pro-rata basis, with the minimum increment set at 5 minutes.

Updated JEE Main website

In addition to the new guidelines, the NTA has also updated the JEE Main 2025 official website. The current portal for exam-related information and updates is back to the previous domain—[jeemain.nta.nic.in](https://jeemain.nta.nic.in). This shift back from last year’s temporary change to [jeemain.nta.ac.in](https://jeemain.nta.ac.in) reflects NTA’s new platform development efforts.

The switch in website domains last year was due to NTA’s efforts to create a new online platform. Previously, the National Informatics Centre (NIC) handled hosting the online application forms. A senior NTA official mentioned that the new platform, developed by NTA, utilizes its own servers for hosting forms, generating city intimation slips, admit cards, and score cards.

JEE Main 2025 registration timeline

The official schedule for JEE Main 2025 has not been announced yet. However, according to media reports, the online application process is expected to start in late November 2024. Candidates should monitor the official JEE Main website for updates regarding registration dates and procedures.

By keeping these guidelines and changes in mind, candidates can better prepare for the upcoming JEE Main 2025 exam.
