In a rare move, iPhone-maker Apple has decided to cut about 100 jobs in its services group, as per a Bloomberg report. Citing sources, the report said that the decision has been taken as part of a change of priorities for the critical division.
The firm has notified the affected employees, who were part of various teams within Senior Vice President Eddy Cue’s services group.
Which roles have been affected by the layoffs?
The layoffs affected several engineering roles, with the largest reductions occurring in the team responsible for the Apple Books app and Apple Bookstore. Other services teams also faced cuts, including the team managing Apple News.
The Bloomberg report said that Apple Books has been deprioritised by the company and is no longer considered a major component of its services lineup. However, the Books app is still anticipated to receive new features over time, according to sources. The layoffs affecting Apple News are not an indication that it is losing focus, they added.
