The Assam Direct Recruitment Examination (ADRE) 2024, carried out by the State Level Recruitment Commission (SLRC), concluded on October 27. The examination had taken place in 3 different phases for the recruitment of grade IV personnel in the Assam government. Internet service was reported to have been suspended across the state during the examination for nearly seven hours. However, voice calls and broadband through fixed lines were available.

The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced that the written tests for the posts advertised last year have now officially concluded. He mentioned that efforts would be made to release the results by February 2025. Following the announcement of the results, viva and skill assessments will be held, with appointment letters slated to be issued by May 10, 2025.

Any incidence of breach during the examination was dealt with punitive measures under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and applicable provisions of the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885.

SLRC carried out the competitive examination in two shifts in 28 districts, officials said. No major incidents have been reported. The recruitment process aims to fill a total of 5,023 posts. About 827,130 candidates are eligible for HSLC level posts, and the first shift went on from 9 A.M. to 11:30 A.M across 1,484 centers.

In the second shift that took place between 1:30 PM and 4 PM, 552002 applicants were reported to have participated for posts requiring at least qualification of Class 8 level at 808 places. High security measures had been put in place at the examination centers.

Special examination trains of five pairs had also been operated by Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) from places of applicants to easily travel to the tests.

Earlier, written exams for grade III posts under the SLRC were conducted on September 15 and 29. Mobile internet services were suspended during the examination on both the dates. Total, around 18.5 lakh candidates have applied for various grade III posts, while around 13.7 lakh for grade IV posts. For the first time, mobile internet was suspended for four hours in almost all districts during grade III and IV post examinations that took place in August 2022.
