In a significant achievement for India’s Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project, the construction of a key river bridge over the Darotha River in Gujarat’s Valsad district has been successfully completed. This marks another crucial step in the development of the high-speed rail corridor that promises to revolutionize travel in western India.
According to officials, the newly completed bridge spans 80 meters and is situated between the Boisar and Vapi stations on the corridor. The structure features two 40-meter long Steel Box Segment (SBS) girders and is supported by a single circular pier of 5 meters in diameter, standing at an impressive height of 18 meters above ground level.

This engineering feat showcases India’s growing capability in delivering complex infrastructure for high-speed rail networks. The completion of the Darotha River bridge also reinforces progress in the civil works segment of the project, which includes construction of viaducts, tunnels, and station infrastructure.
The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), which is overseeing the project, has been ramping up construction efforts across multiple stretches in Gujarat and Maharashtra. The Darotha River bridge is among several river crossings being built to accommodate the 508-kilometer corridor.
Once operational, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train will connect the two cities in under three hours, drastically reducing current travel times and boosting regional economic integration.
This bridge completion also reflects the project’s adherence to quality standards and environmental considerations, as it spans a natural water body with minimal ecological disruption. The high-speed train corridor is expected to be India’s first of its kind, featuring Japanese Shinkansen technology under the India-Japan cooperation framework.
