The Delhi Police has filed an FIR against Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) minister TM Anbarasan for his alleged threatening remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi made at a public rally, officials said on Thursday.

The FIR was registered at the Parliament Street police station on Wednesday, based on a complaint from Supreme Court lawyer Satya Ranjan Swain.

According to the FIR, Anbarasan, who serves as the minister of rural industries, cottage industries, and small industries in the Tamil Nadu government, is accused of openly threatening to “chop Modi into pieces”. These remarks were purportedly made at a public rally in the southern state.

“The threatening statement made by Anbarasan is not only alarming and posing a significant risk to the safety and security of our prime minister, but is also shameful and has been deliberately made to stir the peace and stability of our nation and evoke violence,” the FIR stated.

What were the DMK ministers’ remarks against PM Modi?

A few days ago, DMK Minister TM Anbarasan addressed a public gathering, where he made allegedly offensive and threatening remarks against Prime Minister Modi, which were later widely shared on social media platforms.

In the video, the minister could be seen speaking in Tamil, “We have seen several Prime Ministers but have not seen a PM who can speak this low. He says that he will eradicate us. I just want to say something. DMK is not an ordinary party. It was built on the sacrifice of many and by shedding a lot of blood,” he said.

He added, “Those who said they will destroy DMK have perished. This organization will still stand tall, keep that in mind. Then try showing this somewhere else.”

“I am speaking softly as I am a Minister. If I were not a minister, I would have torn him into pieces,” he remarked.

BJP hits back at DMK

Following the remarks, the BJP took a direct swipe at the Stalin-led DMK government. BJP leader Amit Malviya, sharing the video, wrote, “After Udhayanidhi Stalin called for the annihilation of Sanatan Dharma, DMK Minister TM Anbarasan, Minister for Rural Industries, including Cottage Industries and Small Industries of Tamil Nadu, in a public speech, said, “If I were not a minister, I would tear you” (referring to Prime Minister Modi) “into pieces.”

“I.N.D.I Alliance’s agenda can’t be clearer. Eliminate Sanatan Dharma and anyone seen protecting it,” he added.

BJP leader Satyakumar Yadav also hit out at the DMK minister, saying, “Another day, another low for the INDI Alliance! Now, DMK Minister TM Anbarasan says, “The INDI Alliance knows the result of LS Elections, so they’re now resorting to abusing PM Shri Narendra Modi ji.”

He added, “Such blatant disrespect of the Honorable PM is unacceptable and deserves strong condemnation.”
