Parts of Delhi and its neighboring areas in the National Capital Region (NCR) received light rainfall in the wee hours on Wednesday amid chilly weather conditions. 

Meanwhile, dense to very dense fog engulfed several parts of North India as cold wave conditions in the late night and early morning hours showed no signs of slowing.

The cold day conditions will strike northern India during the next 2 days and decrease in intensity after that. 

Isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh and north Rajasthan will reel under chilly weather during January 24-25, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast mentioned.

Fog conditions to prevail 

Dense to very dense fog conditions are likely to prevail for a few hours in the night/morning over some/many parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh till January 27. 

Hilly regions of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Tripura to see foggy conditions till January 25. 

Cold wave and fog grip Delhi

The people in the national capital woke up to a thick layer of dense fog and light rainfall today.

As per IMD, the maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 19 and 7 degrees Celsius on January 24. 

Notably, Delhi has experienced five cold days and five coldwave days in January so far, the highest in the past 13 years, according to IMD data.

Rainfall and snowfall update 

Under the influence of two feeble western disturbances, light isolated rainfall/snowfall is likely over the Western Himalayan region from January 25-28. 

Further, due to anti-cyclonic circulation over Northwest Bay of Bengal and cyclonic circulation over Marathawada & neighborhood in the lower levels, light rainfall at isolated to scattered places likely over Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal & Sikkim during next 2-3 days. 

Light to moderate rainfall at many places is also predicted over Andaman & Nicobar Islands between January 24-28 with the possibility of heavy rainfall on January 25.
