The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued its All India Impact Based Weather Warning Bulletin earlier this morning. Predicting heavy rainfall in Assam, Meghalaya, Tamil Nadu and Kerala till April 12, it also warns that regions like Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Balistan, Muzaffarabad, Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh are likely to receive thunderstorms accompanied with lighting and gusty winds. Also in the list were Rajasthan, West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Telangana and coastal Andhra Pradesh.
IMD issues heavy rainfall warning
IMD has issued rainfall warning in regions of Assam, Meghalaya, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh with the likelihood of light rain in Bengaluru till April 12. Strong winds of 40-50 kmph will feature states in northern India. Slower but gusty winds are also likely to hit Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Odisha with lighting in some regions in Maharashtra. Bihar is likely to experience a hailstorm along with light-rain today, April 9.
Heat-wave warning continues
However, the heatwave warning continues in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Kutch fostering sever heat wave conditions with rising temperatures and hot-humid weather covering the northern plains. IMD scientist Dr Naresh Kumar told news agency ANI that “light rain in expected on April 11” while informing that heat wave conditions will continue in northwest India till April 10.
“Heatwave conditions are very likely in isolated to many places over West Rajasthan today with severe heatwave in isolated pockets,” the IMD said. IMD scientist Dr. Naresh Kumar added that Delhi could see heatwave conditions for the next three days, before thunderstorms bring respite. While relief is on the horizon, the IMD also warned of a possible return of scorching heat around April 14-15, particularly over southwestern Rajasthan.
The yellow alert as parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh report soaring temperatures to extreme levels. In New Delhi shows a 55% chance of precipitation and highest temperatures are likely to cross 41°C with strong surface winds during day time. People are advised to stay indoors and keep themselves regularly hydrated.
