As meteorological patterns continue to evolve, Northeast India braces for a sustained period of heightened rainfall and thunderstorm activity until April 9, while parts of eastern and peninsular India face the looming threat of heat wave conditions over the next two days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its latest forecast said that there is a high probability of isolated light rainfall or snowfall occurring over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh on April 6, 10, and 11, with similar conditions expected in Uttarakhand for the following seven days. Additionally, isolated light to moderate rainfall is anticipated over Rajasthan on April 6, 10 and 11.
IMD issues heatwave warning
Several regions across India are anticipated to experience intense heat wave conditions, particularly in isolated pockets, today. The areas expected to be affected include Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Vidarbha, North Interior Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Rayalaseema, and Telangana.
Additionally, warm night conditions are forecasted to prevail in isolated pockets over Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Marathwada, and North Interior Karnataka during the same period. Hot and humid weather is expected to persist over Kerala & Mahe, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry and Karaikal from April 6-9, Coastal Karnataka and Konkan & Goa on April 6, Telangana on April 7, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and Rayalaseema from April 7-9.
Rainfall, hailstorm likely in several states
Under the influence of Western Disturbance, various regions are expected to experience isolated light rainfall or snowfall. Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand are likely to witness such precipitation events on specific dates throughout the week. Similarly, Rajasthan is anticipated to receive isolated light to moderate rainfall on specific days.
Additionally, cyclonic circulations over north Bangladesh and east Assam, along with associated weather phenomena, are projected to bring widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning to Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and other neighboring regions.
The weather department also predicted isolated heavy rainfall or snowfall over Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, with possibilities of hailstorm activity in certain areas. Furthermore, a trough or wind discontinuity extending from East Vidarbha to the Comorin area across interior Karnataka and interior Tamil Nadu is expected to trigger isolated rainfall events in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Telangana, Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Yanam.
