The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in its latest weather forecast has predicted heatwave conditions in parts of East India until May 2nd. On the contrary, heavy rainfall and thunderstorms will continue in the Northeast for 3-4 days.

IMD issues red alert for heatwave in THESE states

IMD has extended heat wave conditions red alert in Odisha, Bihar, Rayalaseema, and Gangetic West Bengal. Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions have been observed in several regions, including Gangetic West Bengal, Saurashtra, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Odisha. Heatwave conditions were also experienced in isolated places of Rayalaseema, Telangana, Jharkhand, North Kerala, Konkan, and Jharkhand. 

According to the IMD’s forecast, a cyclonic circulation is present over northeast Bangladesh, with a channel spreading from Bihar to Manipur across the cyclonic circulation at lower tropospheric levels. Similar weather conditions are observed over northeast Assam in lower tropospheric levels. Consequently, over the next five days, there is a forecast of fairly widespread to widespread, light to moderate rainfall/snowfall accompanied by isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in North East regions. The places include Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura and Assam. Isolated hailstorms are expected to take place in Sikkim today.

Powerful surface winds are expected over Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi today and will continue till May 2nd.

Maximum temperature set to rise in central India 

A decrease in maximum temperatures by 2-3°C is likely to occur over Northwest India in the next two days, followed by a subsequent increase by 2-3°C. Moreover, a rise in maximum temperatures by 2-3°C is forecast over Central India in the next five days, while no notable changes are likely to happen in maximum temperatures over the rest of India.
