The Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched a new fast-track system initiative under which Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) will reach applicants within 15 days of any update in the electoral rolls. This move is part of the Commission’s effort to enhance transparency, reduce delays, and upgrade voter services.
The new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) was introduced on June 18. Under the rules, once your name is added to the voter list or any kind of updates are made related to address or details, the ECI will create your EPIC and will hand it over to the Department of Posts for delivery. A new IT module that is integrated with the ECINet portal authorises real-time tracking. Applicants will be able to receive updates from the card printing to dispatch through SMS. As per reports, this digitalisation will replace the earlier 30-45 day manual process, to boost security and speed.
