Uttarakhand Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: The 2024 Lok Sabha Election Results were announced on Tuesday. The NDA is returning to power. However, the BJP was not able to better its 2019 tally. The hill state of Uttarakhand voted in favour of the saffron party in overwhelming manner. All five seats went to the BJP. Uttarakhand went to poll on April 19 in the first phase of the Lok Sabha polls. All five constituencies – Tehri Garhwal, Garhwal, Almora (SC), Nainital-Udhamsingh Nagar and Haridwar – voted in the first phase of the General Elections. 

In Almora, which is an SC seat, the key contest was between Ajay Tamta (BJP) and Pradeep Tamta (Congress). Ajay Tamta won Almora by the margin of 2,34,097, the EC data shows. 

On the other hand, Garhwal also witnessed a direct fight between Ganesh Godiyal (Congress) and Anil Baluni (BJP). Baluni won the constituency by a margin of 1,63,503 votes. 

Moving on, Haridwar, which was a prestige battle between Trivendra Singh Rawat (BJP) and Smt Piya Roy Chowdhury (Congress) saw a clean sweep by Rawat. The BJP won Haridwar by 1,64,056 votes.   

The other talked-about contest was between Smt. Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah (BJP) and Jot Singh Guntsola (Congress) in Tehri Garhwal. Shah won the parliamentary contest by a margin of 2,72,493 votes. 

Nainital-Udhamsingh Nagar Lok Sabha constituency saw a battle between Ajay Bhatt (BJP) and Virender Rawat (Congress). Bhatt won the seat by a victory margin of 3,34,548 votes. 

This year, Uttarakhand had recorded the third lowest voting percentage in the country during the phase 1 of the Lok Sabha polls. According to the official data that was released by the Election Commission, Uttarakhand’s overall average voter turnout was  53.64%. The hill state witnessed fewer voters. Lowest voting percentage in the phase 1 was registered in Bihar (47.49) and Rajasthan (50.95).

While Uttarakhand has seen alternating governments between the BJP and the Congress, in recent years, the saffron party has remained a dominant political force in the hill state. In the 2017 Assembly elections, the BJP won a thumping majority.  In 2022, the BJP did not only repeat win, it crossed the three-fourth majority mark in the Assembly in the state elections.
