At least eight people lost their lives in an accident when a pickup vehicle fell into a gorge on the Chedakhan-Midar motor road in Uttarakhand’s Nainital district on Friday morning.
The incident took place around 8 AM when the vehicle was en route from Patlot to Amjad village, said Nainital Senior Superintendent of Police Prahlad Narayan Meena.

The vehicle veered into the gorge while attempting to avoid a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction, he said, as PTI reported.
Six individuals, including a couple and their son, died on the spot, while two others succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. Three people injured in the accident have been admitted to the Community Health Centre in Okhalkanda, the SSP said.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami condoled the deaths.
“May God grant peace to the souls of the departed and strength to the bereaved family to bear this immense suffering. I pray to Baba Kedar for the speedy recovery of the injured,” said Dhami.
The accident comes four days after another accident in the state, when a car carrying six people plunged into a gorge near Jaurasi in Uttarakhand’s Nainital district.
