Delhi Police on Monday, July 29, claimed it has arrested five more persons, including the owner of a basement in a four-story building where three IAS hopefuls perished after being flooded by heavy rains. “Five more persons have been arrested in connection with the flooding case in Rajinder Nagar. This includes the owner of the basement and an individual who drove a vehicle which appears to have damaged the gate of the building (leading to water gushing in the basement),” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) M Harsha Vardhan said.

The total number of people arrested in this case now stands at seven.

“5 more arrests have been made into the #RajenderNagar incident including the owners of the basement and the person who appears to damage the gate of the building. So far, 7 persons have been arrested. We are committed to ensuring strict action against all those involved in the case,” Delhi Police said in a tweet on X, formerly Twitter.

The owner and coordinator of Rau’s IAS Study Circle in the Old Rajinder Nagar area have already been arrested and charged with culpable homicide and other offences.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central), M Harsha Vardhan, stated that each floor of the building is owned by a different person. The Police said the car waded through the rainfall, increasing the water flow and knocking down the basement door.

According to the officer, the police are dedicated to ensuring that all those responsible face serious consequences.
