A video recently surfaced on social media platforms like X and Instagram that drew the limelight on the massive multi-storey mall in Hyderabad, the Lulu Mall. The video posted by a food vlogger, food_hub, soon went viral and counted around 2 million views. The viral video showed unbothered and disrespectful customers eating inside the grocery store without paying for the food and leaving the wrappers behind them.
After some time, more videos went viral dissing the Lulu Mall’s incompatibility and lack of management by the authorities, as people were finding difficulty in parking cars and long jams on the road because of Lulu Mall.
The mall was opened on September 27, 2023, by the state’s IT, Industries, and Municipal Minister, K T Rama Rao, with the group chairman and managing director, MA Yusuff Ali. The mall promised to give luxury and international-level facilities to the public, but according to recent posts, the mall failed to accommodate the Hyderabad crowd.
One post sparked debate over the mall’s dysfunction but also the nature of customers who left the food half eaten and emptied without bothering to pay. The user said the experience was ‘traumatising’ adding, “Sorry and Ashamed. This is not Hyderabad, nor it represents Hyderabadi culture.”
Videos posted by vlogger Kiran Sahoo on the Instagram pages “food_hud” and “charishma_lagadapati” showing the hypermarket’s floors littered with consumables and storage racks full of empty and partially consumed food packets with items like biscuits, cold drinks, fruits, and even samosas showed things taking a bad turn on the launch day itself. Videos also showed the extreme disorder at the busy mall.
Amid the chaos, some users came forward to suggest a press conference. “@KTRBRS @KTRoffice sir, you need to keep a press meet on the Lulu Mall incident; most of them are well educated and come from decent families, Hyderabad is like our mother, we should respect and behave properly.. felt bad and sad,” said a X user on Thursday, October 5.
