Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday accused the BJP of deliberately instigating last month’s violence in Sambhal, calling the party “conspiratorial.”
In a statement from the party’s state headquarters, Yadav alleged that the BJP government, led by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, lacked vision and was using power for political gains.

“The BJP government and its chief minister have no vision. The BJP is destroying the democratic system. It misuses power. It uses the administration for its political gains,” Yadav said, as PTI reported.
“The Sambhal incident was deliberately caused by the BJP government. The administration in Sambhal killed innocent people. The administration and officials are working under pressure,” he added.

The violence erupted on November 24 during a survey when protesters clashed with security personnel near the Shahi Jama Masjid. Four people were killed and several others injured in the incident.
Yadav accused the BJP of negative politics, alleging that it hatches conspiracies to tarnish the reputation of opposition leaders. He further slammed the BJP government for failing to address key issues such as inflation, unemployment, and the state of law and order.

“This government has ruined the education and health system. Law and order is in shambles. It is a double-engine government, but the BJP government has no achievements. Inflation, unemployment are at their peak. Farmers, youth, poor, middle class, all are troubled,” Yadav said, adding that the Samajwadi Party would form the next government in the 2027 assembly elections.
The former UP Chief Minister also took aim at the government’s preparations for the Mahakumbh, set to begin on January 13, 2025. Yadav claimed the BJP had failed to complete necessary arrangements for the event, leading to inconvenience and chaos for devotees.
The BJP government is focused on its own publicity instead of ensuring the convenience of devotees, he said, adding that the Samajwadi Party government had successfully organized the Mahakumbh in 2013, earning praise both domestically and internationally.
In related developments, a case has been registered against Sambhal’s SP MP Zia Ur Rahman for allegedly inciting violence, and another case of electricity theft has been filed against him.
