At least 10 pilgrims traveling to Maha Kumbh lost their lives after their car collided with a bus in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj on Friday night, according to media reports. The victims were reportedly from Chhattisgarh, and several others sustained injuries in the crash.
The accident occurred around midnight on the Prayagraj-Mirzapur highway under the Meja police station limits, DCP Yamunanagar Vivek Chandra Yadav told news agency ANI.
Upon receiving the information, authorities rushed to the scene and launched a rescue operation. The injured were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
The UP Chief Minister’s Office in a statement said, “CM Yogi Adityanath took cognizance of the road accident in Prayagraj district and expressed condolences to the bereaved families. He directed the officials to immediately reach the spot and expedite the relief work and also directed the district administration officials to treat the injured properly. He also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
DCP Yadav confirmed that the bodies have been sent to Swaroop Rani Medical Hospital for postmortem. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined, and an investigation is underway.
