Heavy rains continued to batter several parts of Telangana, including the state capital Hyderabad, on Sunday, prompting Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to convene an emergency review meeting with his ministers, officials, and elected members to assess the situation.
A woman has died and three others are feared missing in separate rain-related incidents in Mahabubabad and Khammam districts on Sunday. Heavy rains and waterlogging have caused significant disruptions on the South Central Railway network, resulting in the cancellation of 99 trains, partial cancellations of four trains, and the diversion of 54 trains, according to an SCR official.
In light of the persistent heavy rains across the state, Reddy assessed the situation in the affected areas and spoke to ministers Bhatti Vikramarka, N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Tummala Nageshwar Rao, Damodara Raja Narasimha, and Jupalli Krishna Rao by phone to inquire about the relief efforts in the flooded regions, according to an official release.

Taking it to X, Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar, said, “Informed Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri @AmitShah ji about the severe situation in Telangana’s Khammam & that 110 villages in the district have been submerged, 9 people are stranded on Prakash Nagar hillock, 68 people on Azmeera Thanda hillock in Palair constituency, and 42 others are trapped on buildings.”
Following the Home Minister’s orders, nine NDRF teams—three each from Chennai, Visakhapatnam, and Assam—have been deployed to Telangana, Sanjay Kumar said.
He added that he has spoken with senior NDRF officials to coordinate the rescue efforts and has also discussed the situation and ongoing operations with Telangana Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy.

A woman died early Sunday when the car she was in with her father was swept away while crossing an overflowing stream in Maripeda mandal, Mahabubabad district, police said. The pair were en route to Hyderabad to catch a flight. The car has been located, and the woman’s body has been recovered, but efforts are ongoing to find her father, who is still missing.
In another incident, two family members are feared to have been washed away in floodwaters after the wall of their house collapsed in Kusumanchi mandal, Khammam district. Rescue operations are underway to locate them, officials reported.
The Met Centre has issued a red warning for very heavy to extremely heavy rain at isolated places in Adilabad, Nizamabad, Rajanna Sircilla, Yadadri Bhuvangiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Kamareddy, and Mahabubnagar districts of Telangana from 1:00 pm on Sunday to 8:30 am on September 2.
