The 10th Sikkim Legislative Assembly elections took place on April 11, 2019, alongside the Lok Sabha polls. The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) defeated the long-standing Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), securing a simple majority with 17 seats. SKM leader Prem Singh Tamang (P.S. Golay) became the Chief Minister. Other parties like BJP, INC, and Hamro Sikkim Party fielded candidates but didn’t win any seats.

Sikkim Assembly Elections 2024: Voter turnout in 2019

Sikkim witnessed vigorous voter turnout, with 78.19 percent of its 4.30 lakh electorate casting their votes across 32 Assembly constituencies and one Lok Sabha seat which was slightly lower compared to the 2014 elections, which saw a turnout of 83.85 percent.

Data released by the Sikkim election office indicated that 78.55 percent of the 2,20,305 male voters and 77.81 percent of the 2,12,001 female voters had participated in the voting process.

Among the regions, North Sikkim recorded the highest turnout at 81.74 percent, followed by the west, south, and east regions with polling percentages of 81.64, 78.07, and 75.60 percent, respectively.
