In a tragic incident, the roof of Piplodi Primary School in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar district collapsed on Friday, killing at least four students and injuring 17 others. The accident occurred around 7.45 am.

PM Modi said the Jhalawar School incident is ‘deeply saddening.’
His post on X reads, “The mishap at a school in Jhalawar, Rajasthan, is tragic and deeply saddening. My thoughts are with the affected students and their families in this difficult hour. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. Authorities are providing all possible assistance to those affected.”
Rescue Operation
Jhalawar Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Budania confirmed that rescue operations are underway. The district’s Collector and SP have rushed to the scene. Emergency services have been deployed as efforts continue to pull out survivors.
According to SHO Vijendra Singh of Dangipura police station, at least 17 students were inside the building when the roof of the classrooms for Classes 6 and 7 gave way.
“Eight students were injured in the incident. Two have been referred to a higher medical centre for advanced treatment, while six are undergoing care at a hospital in Jhalawar,” he said.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy. “The tragic accident caused by the collapse of a school roof in Peeplodi, Jhalawar, is extremely sad and heart-wrenching. Instructions have been given to ensure proper treatment for the injured children,” he said in a statement.
Former CM Ashok Gehlot also expressed concern. “Several children and teachers are reported to have been injured… I pray the loss of life is minimal and the injured recover quickly,” he wrote on X.
State School Education Minister Madan Dilawar announced that a formal investigation has been launched. Authorities are also inspecting the structural safety of other school buildings in the area to prevent similar incidents.
The cause of the collapse is yet to be determined.
