RG Kar hospital rape-murder: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a charge sheet against Sanjay Roy, the prime accused in the rape and murder case of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

Roy, a civic volunteer with the local police, committed the crime on August 9 when the victim went to sleep in the hospital’s seminar room during a break, officials said on Monday. The charge sheet, filed before a special court in Kolkata, did not include charges of gang rape, indicating Roy acted alone.

However, the CBI has kept the investigation open, officials added.

The body of the 31-year-old trainee doctor was discovered in the seminar room of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on the morning of August 9. Roy was arrested by Kolkata Police on August 10 and remanded to police custody until August 24.

Following an order from the Calcutta High Court, the investigation was transferred to the CBI on August 13.
