Republic Day 2024: President Droupadi Murmu delivered a national address on the eve of Republic Day, which was broadcast on Akashvani’s national network and telecasted on all Doordarshan channels in both Hindi and English, marking the lead-up to India’s 75th Republic Day.
In her speech, the President engaged directly with the citizens, reflecting on the nation’s journey, accomplishments, challenges, and the path ahead. On Friday, she will preside over the Republic Day celebrations, featuring an impressive showcase of India’s growing military strength and rich cultural heritage in a 90-minute parade along Kartavya Path.
The festivities, themed around highlighting the nation’s women power and democratic values, will have French President Emmanuel Macron as the honored chief guest.
During the parade, the armed forces will exhibit a variety of domestically produced weaponry and military equipment, including missiles, drone jammers, surveillance systems, vehicle-mounted mortars, and BMP-II infantry combat vehicles.
It is noteworthy that the event will feature the historic inclusion of an all-women tri-services contingent, marking the first time such participation has occurred and adding a significant historical dimension to the nation’s largest ceremonial gathering.
On the eve of the 75th Republic Day, President Droupadi Murmu also announced Gallantry awards for 80 Armed Forces personnel, with 12 awarded posthumously. The commendations comprise six Kirti Chakras (including three posthumous), 16 Shaurya Chakras (including two posthumous), 53 Sena Medals (including seven posthumous), one Nao Sena Medal (Gallantry), and four Vayu Sena Medals (Gallantry).
