Wintrack Inc., which halted its operations in India after alleging bribery demands from customs officials, has now highlighted a case of an entrepreneur. The man, Sanjay Kumar Sharma, was allegedly harassed by a customs officer at Delhi Airport over the samples he was carrying. The officer demanded that he show the receipt of the samples he was carrying.

‘Reccuring problem at Indian airports’

“Customs harassment faced at Delhi Airport by Sanjay Kumar Sharma, vlogger and entrepreneur, just after Vir Sanghvi highlighted Delhi Customs,” wrote Wintrack on X (formerly Twitter).

It stressed that “genuine entrepreneurs face harassment frequently,” before adding, “It’s not an isolated incident but a recurring problem at various Indian airports. Not everyone has social media to voice concerns and risks backlash during future travel.”

Alongside, they shared a video by Sanjay Kumar Sharma, who goes by “suprans.china” online.

‘Asked me for the bill for sample products’

The now viral video, which he recorded at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, opens to show Sharma recalling his experience with the customs. “As soon as I come to India, I will share my experience with you. All my luggage is legal, everything is legal,” he said, adding that despite that, he has been “standing at the airport for 1.5 hours”.

He added, “I don’t have any problem, I am fully cooperating. My driver was outside, so I asked him to wait. They asked me about the value of my luggage. I told them that they are all samples. Then they asked me for the bill. I told them that I would let them talk to the supplier.”

The angry passenger asked what the purpose of a sample was and why anyone would issue a bill for sample products.

He also flagged a behavioural issue he encountered. “As soon as I came here, the flag was upside down. I told him to fix it.”

However, instead of fixing it, the man said that the officer told him to raise the complaint with the GMR. “People come to their country, that’s why they leave the country. People like us who want to do something good for the country,” he expressed.

When he asked the officer for the gate number to tell the same to his driver who was waiting outside, he was told to go out and see.

“The officer told me that I don’t want to be like you. I said, sir, I don’t want to be like you because I don’t have a government job,” he further said, before adding that the age of an officer is 30 years.

Delhi Customs seeks details

Delhi Customs took cognisance of the allegations and asked Sharma to share details. “Please share the details of the incident so that suitable action can be taken,” the response from Delhi Customs read.

FinancialExpress.com reached out to Delhi Customs for a comment. The statement will be added as and when we receive one.

‘Future looks promising,’ says Wintrack

Earlier in October, Wintrack founder Prawin Ganeshan expressed optimism after the Finance Ministry’s inquiry into the customs bribe case. He said that he entered the meeting room anticipating a one-sided affair, but the session left him hopeful. He went on to say that the future looks “promising with growth for all”.

“After the first session, I realised the government and the Ministry of Finance are committed to resolving entrepreneurs’ issues and providing a long-term solution. Not only Wintrack Inc.’s grievances, but those from all others have been listened to, and the future looks promising with growth for all,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
