As cross-border military strikes between India and Pakistan continue to escalate in the wake of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and the subsequent Operation Sindoor, the Chandigarh Administration issued an open appeal, calling for young citizens to join as Civil Defence Volunteers. Addressing the message to youth above 18 years of age, Friday evening message read, “APPEAL TO THE YOUTH… Serve the Nation. Be Prepared,” in the wake of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
“Chandigarh Administration invites young citizens who are above 18 years age, to join as *Civil Defence Volunteers* and support emergency preparedness,” the May 9 post added, noting that the Civil Defence Enrolment & Training Camp would begin on May 10 at 10:30 AM, with the venue set as Tagore Theatre, Chandigarh.
Massive turnout for Civil Defence Volunteer program amid India-Pakistan conflict
Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav further appealed to the young masses to “Step up, get trained, and serve when it matters most.” Following up on the results, ANI shared visuals of the massive turnout in Chandigarh. Huge queues of volunteers showed up to support the Army. “I am ready to give my life for India,” a local, Karan Chopra said at the location. “We have filled the form; we are ready to do whatever is expected from us…”
The inaugural enrollment was set to begin at 10:30 am With thousands cheering on for India in the crowd, chants of “Pakistan Murdabad” echoed throughout. Another young local from Chandigarh was heard saying, “We are here to support the Army. They are doing so much for us, and we also want to do something for them.”

Another individual among the volunteers asserted, “We all want to help our Army and respond to Pakistan’s continued provocations. This government’s firm stance has truly inspired us to step up. With this kind of unity, no one in the world can question the spirit of our country.”
Chandigarh DC on Civil Defence Volunteers program
Deputy Commissioner Nishant Yadav even opened up about what would entail the civil defence volunteers program. “We plan to teach civil defence rules, basic police procedures, relief and rehabilitation work, and methods for raising awareness among residents,” he told The New Indian Express.
He added, “Following the training, we will assess who is fit for selection. The chosen volunteers will be deployed across sectors, markets, and nearby villages during this time of conflict. There is no fixed target for numbers, nor any maximum age limit. Female volunteers are welcome.”
