Maharashtra Deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday took a dig at Congress MP and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over his “Samvidhan Sammelan” event, accusing him of insincerity regarding his devotion to the Constitution.

Fadnavis, who is also the BJP candidate from Nagpur South-West, stated, “He has no devotion to the Constitution. This is just his drama and nothing else. Nobody is going to vote for him with his drama.” Earlier in the day, Fadnavis held a roadshow in Nagpur as part of his election campaign.

In response, Gandhi chaired a District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting in Raebareli, where he inaugurated the newly-built Shaheed Chowk and Degree College Chauraha. During his visit, he also offered prayers at Shri Peepaleshwar Mahadevji Mandir and Hanuman Mandir.

Gandhi, who currently represents Raebareli as a Member of Parliament, won the seat in the 2024 general elections by a significant margin of 390,030 votes. As part of his one-day visit to the district, he plans to inaugurate roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).

Later in the day, Gandhi will travel to Hyderabad to meet with intellectuals and stakeholders regarding the state government’s caste survey. Telangana Minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced that the survey is being conducted for the first time in the state, with each enumerator assigned to survey 150 households.

“Rahul Gandhi will reach Hyderabad to hold a meeting with intellectuals, stakeholders on caste survey initiated by the state government…A caste survey is being conducted for the first time in Telangana…Each enumerator has been given 150 houses to survey, and accordingly, decisions will be taken for their benefit,” Prabhakar said on Monday.

The Congress party has consistently advocated for a nationwide caste census, deeming it a “progressive and significant step.”
