A non-cognisable (NC) case has been filed against Hemant Bagul, the son of Congress leader and former Pune deputy mayor Aba Bagul, following an alleged road rage incident where Bagul reportedly slapped a motorcyclist after a minor collision. The incident took place at a traffic signal in Mangalwar Peth on Tuesday, as confirmed by the police official on Friday.

Details of the incident

The confrontation happened when motorcyclist Fayaz Sayyad’s two-wheeler brushed against Bagul’s car while attempting to take over between the two vehicles. The moment has been captured in a viral video showing the motorcyclist losing balance as the car door opened resulting in the collision. Sayyad has blamed Bagul for slapping him and verbally abusing him following the incident. On the contrary, Bagul alleges that Sayyad threatened him during the heated argument.

An NC case has been booked by the Bundgarden police station based on the complaints received by both the parties. The investigation is currently going by the authorities to determine the sequence of the incident. This case has attracted significant attention because of the involvement of a prominent political figure’s family member.

This case adds up to the other road rage cases in which individuals have links with the political figures. In November 2024, Prajwal Shetty who is son of Congress leader Deviprasad Shetty was arrested for allegedly running over a biker with his SUV in Karnataka.

Similarly, in June 2024, the son of former Pune deputy mayor and NCP leader Bandu Gaikwad was involved in a hit and run incident in Pune. In this case, Gailwad’s SUV has crashed with a poultry tempo, and has injured two people.
