The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has filed a chargesheet in one of the rape cases against Janata Dal (Secular) leader and former MP Prajwal Revanna, based on allegations by a domestic worker. The chargesheet outlines grave accusations including repeated sexual assault and unlawful confinement, according to a report in India Today.

The survivor, who worked at the Revanna family’s farmhouse in Holenarasipura, revealed that the first assault occurred in 2021 during the Covid-19 lockdown. The victim alleges that Revanna raped her multiple times over an extended period at various locations, including the Gannikada farmhouse and residences in Bengaluru.

The chargesheet claims that Revanna not only confined and raped her repeatedly but also recorded the assaults and used the videos to threaten her into silence. The report also stated that the victim’s decision to come forward was prompted by the circulation of explicit videos online, which led her to leave her job and report the abuse.

Revanna in custody for last 10 months, bail rejected multiple times

Revanna, who has been in judicial custody for over ten months, has been denied bail multiple times. He faces several serious charges under the Indian Penal Code, including Section 376(2)(k) (rape by someone in a position of authority), 376(2)(n) (repeated rape of the same woman) and Sections 354A, 354B, 354C, 506, and 201, which are related to sexual harassment, disrobing, voyeurism, intimidation, and destruction of evidence.

Additionally, he has been booked under Section 66E of the Information Technology Act for the unauthorised capturing and circulation of private images. The case is scheduled for a hearing on April 9. This chargesheet pertains specifically to the domestic worker’s complaint, but several other cases are pending against Revanna.

Between April 28 and June 10, 2024, four FIRs were filed at Holenarasipura Police Station, with two more at cybercrime stations in Bengaluru. A separate FIR has also been registered against his father Holenarasipura MLA HD Revanna at KR Nagar Police Station.
