The residents of Noida and Greater Noida have been facing prolonged power cuts as power crisis gripped Noida and Greater Noida amid heatwave conditions. The outages were witnessed across multiple sectors. The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) reported a steady rise in power demand since June 1, with peaks hitting 30, 648 MW on June 17, a significant increase from last year’s 28,284MW peak recorded in July.

According to multiple media reports, the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) reported a steady rise in power demand since June 1, peaking at 30,648 MW on June 17, a significant increase from last year’s peak of 28,284 MW recorded in July.

Rajiv Mohan, Chief Engineer of PVVNL Noida, anticipates a further increase in July as humidity and heat typically drive up electricity usage. He acknowledged that while the infrastructure is under pressure, efforts are being made to manage the situation.

In Greater Noida, the Noida Power Company Limited (NPCL) faced its highest demand on June 18 at 775 MW. Officials have assured that adequate arrangements are in place to meet peak requirements. Despite this, residents in sectors 50, 55, 56, 71, 104, 117, and 122 continue to experience interruptions lasting several hours, causing frustration among locals.

Officials have attributed the outages to local faults exacerbated by high temperatures, which are causing overheating in the supply network.

Peak power demand in Delhi

Delhi’s peak power demand reached an all-time high of 8,647 megawatts at 3:22 pm on June 18, according to DISCOM officials. This marks the highest demand in the history of the national capital. Delhi’s peak power demand first crossed 8,000 MW on May 22, and since then, it has surpassed this threshold on eight occasions.

The ability of the city’s power distribution network to sustain this prolonged high demand highlights its robustness. The increased power demand is primarily due to weather conditions, which have led residents to use more air conditioning and coolers, resulting in higher electricity consumption.

Delhi-Noida weather updates

As the IMD had predicted previously, Delhi-Noida received very light rainfall on June 21 after two days of cloudy sky, gusty winds, dust-storms, and thunderstorms.
