Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Tuesday demanded the removal of Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar following car accident allegedly involving a 17-year-old boy that resulted in the death of two people.

Speaking to reporters, Raut accused the police of providing a false report regarding the incident and questioned whom the Pune police chief was attempting to protect.

The accident took place in the early hours of Sunday in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar area. A Porsche car, reportedly driven by the 17-year-old who police claim was drunk, struck and killed two motorbike riders, who died on the spot.

The teenager was brought before the Juvenile Justice Board, which granted him bail shortly thereafter. The Board also directed him to visit the Regional Transport Office to study traffic rules and to submit an essay on the topic within 15 days.

Earlier in the day, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said that they detained the teenager’s father from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Additionally, the Pune police arrested three executives from two hotels for allegedly serving alcohol to the minor, according to another official.

Reacting to the incident, Raut said, “The Pune police commissioner should be sacked. Whom has he helped in this case? Two innocent persons lost their lives. The boy can be seen drinking in a pub.”

“This is a corrupt police system and a corrupt MLA,” he claimed without taking names, asking, “Whom is the police commissioner trying to save? You are giving a false report,” the Rajya Sabha member alleged.

The police have registered a case against the teenager’s father, a real estate developer, under Sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act. They have also taken action against the owners and staff of the bar for serving alcohol to a minor.

An official said the investigation has been transferred to the crime branch. Section 75 addresses “willful neglect of a child, or exposing a child to mental or physical illnesses,” while Section 77 pertains to supplying a child with intoxicating liquor or drugs.

According to the police, the teenager has been charged under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code, along with violations of the Motor Vehicles Act.On Monday, Pune police announced they would seek permission from a higher court to try the teenager as an adult.
