A Mumbai court has extended the police custody of the man accused of stabbing Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan during a robbery attempt at his home. The court granted an extension of custody for the suspect, Shareeful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, 30, until January 29.

Fakir, 30, a Bangladeshi national who had entered India illegally and adopted the alias Vijay Das, was arrested last week in Thane.

Police requested an additional seven days in custody to continue their investigation into key aspects of the case, which the court approved.

The attack took place in the early hours of January 16, when Fakir, armed with a knife, entered Khan’s 12th-floor apartment in Bandra.

Khan, 54, was stabbed multiple times, including near his neck and spine, and was admitted to Lilavati Hospital for treatment. He underwent two surgeries and was discharged on January 21.
