Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed confidence in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) victory in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, asserting that the Union Budget had brought “happiness to every family” and was the most middle-class-friendly budget in India’s history.
Speaking at a rally in RK Puram ahead of the Delhi polls on February 5, Modi highlighted provisions in the budget that benefit the middle class, particularly those earning up to Rs 12 lakh.
He claimed this relief was unprecedented since India’s independence. “The middle class is saying that this is the most friendly Budget for them in India’s history,” he said.
The prime minister also criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi for alleged false promises and corruption, accusing its policies of leading to the closure of factories. “Those who have looted people will have to account for it,” Modi said, while contrasting the “AAP-da” (false promises) with “Modi’s guarantees.”
Modi, who wished the public on Basant Panchami, stated that the festival symbolizes a change in seasons and added that the people of Delhi had decided to elect a BJP government.
He claimed that the AAP had “destroyed” 11 years of the national capital’s progress, and a double-engine government focused on development and growth would now be elected.
The prime minister emphasised his government’s commitment to four pillars—poor, farmers, youth, and women—saying the Union Budget would fulfill these promises. He also pointed to the budget’s focus on employment-generating sectors such as tourism and manufacturing, which he said would benefit the youth.
Modi highlighted welfare measures in the BJP manifesto, including promises for senior citizens and women, emphasizing the benefits a BJP government would bring to Delhi. “When Modi gives a guarantee, he puts his heart, mind, and soul into fulfilling it,” he said.
Acknowledging the middle class, including salaried employees, as a significant voter base, Modi claimed his government’s decisions cater to their dreams and aspirations. He also assured Delhi residents that under a BJP government, no slums would be demolished and no welfare schemes would be halted.
Expressing confidence in the BJP’s victory, Modi said, “You can note it down: the BJP government will be formed in Delhi on February 8, and by March 8, International Women’s Day, women will start receiving Rs 2,500.” He credited women for their role as a “protective shield” for his government.
Modi also took aim at former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, saying, “Those who live in ‘sheesh mahal’ cannot relate to a poor family’s jhuggi or a middle-class family’s 2BHK flat.”
He further accused the AAP of corruption in multiple sectors, including health, and claimed that the party’s recent struggles, including defections by several leaders, indicated the public’s anger toward them.
