In a rare and major acceptance, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif acknowledged that Indian ballistic missiles hit Nur Khan Airbase and other strategic sites during Operation Sindoor. This marks a clear departure from Islamabad’s earlier denials of Indian military actions on its soil.

Sharif, while addressing a ceremony at the Pakistan Monument, stated that the Chief of Army Staff, General Syed Asim Munir, called him in the early hours of May 10 to inform him about the strikes. ”At around 2:30 am, General Asim Munir called me on a secure line and told me that India’s ballistic missiles had hit Nur Khan Airbase and other areas,” Sharif stated, as mentioned by Geo News.

He further added that the Pakistan Air Force countered back by using local technology and advanced equipment fitted on Chinese jets to protect the country.

Acceptance by Pak PM highlights scale of Operation Sindoor

The Indian military launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 in retaliation for the deadly April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, in which 27 lives were lost. As part of the operation, Indian forces attacked terror camps and infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. During the attack, reportedly over 100 terrorists were killed from groups like Hizbul Mujahideen, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Counteracting Indian strikes, Pakistan retaliated with shelling and drone attacks across the border, resulting in a larger Indian offensive that struck communication systems and air defence setups at 11 Pakistani air bases.

Politicians reaction to the statement

BJP leader Amit Malviya commented on Sharif’s remarks to highlight India’s military precision. ”Let that sink in-the Prime Minister was woken up with news of strikes deep inside Pakistan. This speaks volumes about the boldness of Operation Sindoor,” Malviya wrote on X.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi also shared her reaction on social media, stating, ”To be as clueless as this man when terror airbases under his control are being destroyed by India. Deeply satisfying.’’
