A woman police Inspector was allegedly attacked, manhandled and confined by miscreants, during a raid at a gambling den in Odisha’s Balasore district.
The incident occurred on Sunday night when Inspector in-Charge (IIC) Champabati Soren, along with three staff members, patrolled Udaipur village following information about a gambling session. They went on to raid the house.
Upon the police party’s arrival, locals allegedly assembled and manhandled them. It is claimed that the female police officer and her staff were then locked up in a room.
The police forces from Bhograi police station and Chandaneswar outpost intervened, rescuing them.

Acting on a tip about illegal gambling, the IIC and her team reached the location, leading to an argument and physical confrontation with locals during patrolling, according to Dilip Sahu, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Jaleswar.
Dilip Sahu, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Jaleswar, mentioned that an investigation is ongoing, and the law will be followed for appropriate action against the accused.
About 20 people were detained over the incident, and further investigation is on, police told PTI.
