Vrindavan’s Thakur Bankebihari Temple has urged visitors to “dress modestly” and avoid “indecent clothes” when visiting the temple, especially ahead of the New Year rush.
The temple’s management issued the appeal, highlighting that attire such as mini skirts, torn jeans, half pants, and night suits is unsuitable for the sacred environment. Such clothing, they stated, diminishes the sanctity and dignity of the temple.
The message was communicated via media channels and banners placed throughout Vrindavan, particularly along the roads leading to the temple, PTI reported.
Munish Sharma, the temple manager, explained that the initiative aims to “preserve the cultural dignity” of the temple. He noted that visitors, particularly from outside the region, often wear casual tourist attire like jeans and t-shirts, which doesn’t align with the temple’s traditional values.
“We have seen instances where devotees, particularly from outside the region, arrive dressed in casual tourist attire like jeans and t-shirts. This is not following the temple’s respect for tradition,” he said.
Each year, thousands of domestic and international visitors come to Thakur Bankebihari Temple.
