Mumbai rains news: As residents of Mumbai struggle through the heavily waterlogged roads in Vikhroli, Ghatkopar, Bhandup, and Andheri, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert warning for the state. Five districts, Pune, Raigad, Satara, Ratnagiri, and Kolhapur, are under an IMD red alert, with ten other areas under an orange warning. The financial capital braces for yet another day with heavy waterlogging and incessant rainfall. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) stated on X (formerly Twitter) and “declared a holiday today, Monday, 18th August 2025, for all schools & colleges scheduled to function in the second session, i.e. after noon.”
Visuals from Marine Drive, Nalasapora, and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) area show residents battling heavy rains as the office rush hour begins. Wadala local train station was covered under a heavy spell of rainfall; however, no delays have been reported so far. Last night, amid heavy rains, a portion of a staircase fell in South Mumbai, leaving some people trapped on the upper floor.

Mumbai Rains: 10 key updates
- Several districts in Maharashtra have been placed under the red and orange alert by the IMD. Red alert districts include: Pune, Raigad, Satara, Ratnagiri, and Kolhapur. Orange alert has been issued in Thane, Aurangabad, Jalna, Beed, Latur, and Sindhugarh.
- Six children were stuck in a school bus trapped on waterlogged roads in the Matunga area for nearly half an hour.
- A cloudburst in Mukhed taluka of Nanded district led to flooding in the Maharashtra region and has left at least 5 missing after Latur recorded 206 mm rainfall since Sunday.
- Knee-depth water seen in Dada forced school-children to struggle their way on the road as vehicles were stuck too. More than 70mm of rainfall has been recorded in low-lying areas, with regions like Andheri, Goregaon, Malad, and Kandivali set to experience a prolonged spell of showers.
- With 80mm of rainfall in Bandra, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued an advisory for schools and colleges declaring a holiday for those operating in the second shift.
- Both Mainline and Harbourline experience a 10 to 15-minute delay in services along Kurla, Chembur, and Tilaknagar.
- IMD issued red alert for August 19 as residents suggest a holiday for tomorrow too.
