The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued a yellow alert for the financial capital, Mumbai, warning of heavy rainfall and potential disruptions throughout the day. Orange alerts have been issued for areas such as Thane, Palghar, Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, Raigad, and Ratnagiri, warning of heavy rainfall and potential disruptions.

A red alert has also been issued for isolated areas in Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra, warning of severe weather conditions, with residents advised to exercise extreme caution and stay indoors unless absolutely necessary.

The districts of Konkan are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rain in isolated areas. Similarly, the districts of Madhya Maharashtra, particularly in the Ghat region, are also likely to experience heavy to very heavy rain in isolated places.

Heavy rain expected in North Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has also reported that the districts of North Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada can expect heavy rain in isolated areas. Additionally, Vidarbha is forecasted to experience thundershowers, gusty winds, and heavy rain in isolated places.

According to an update from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Tansa Lake, which supplies water to Mumbai, began overflowing at around 4:16 PM today. Consequently, three gates of the Tansa Dam have been opened, releasing water at a rate of 3,315 cusecs. The lake’s full storage capacity is 14,508 crore liters.

Due to extension work on platforms 10, 11, 12, and 13 at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CSMT), the Konkan Railway has short-terminated trains at Thane and Dadar stations.

In response to residential areas being inundated by heavy rainfall, the Pune Fire Department has deployed inflatable rubber boats to rescue affected residents. Additionally, the Andheri Subway has been closed to vehicular movement due to waterlogging following the heavy rainfall.
