Mumbai bridge collapse: Mumbai police on Monday arrested auditor Neeraj Desai who had conducted the structural audit of the CST bridge that collapsed last week. In the accident, six people lost their lives and 31 people got injured. Neeraj Desai had conducted a structural audit of the bridge and reported it to be in “good condition”.

The reports of the structural audit surfaced immediately after the collapse. It was asked how did a bridge collapse within six months of passing the structural audit?

Last week on Thursday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had ordered a high-level inquiry into the accident. In its preliminary report, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation pinned the blame of collapse on an “irresponsible structural audit”.

The Mumbai police had also filed a First Information Report (FIR) booking the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation for causing death by negligence.
