Three people were killed and 20 others were injured when a three-storey building collapsed in the Lucknow’s Transport Nagar area on Saturday night trapping around a dozen people under the rubble, according to officials. As per the information from the UP Relief Commissioner’s office, the injured have been rushed to Lok Bandhu Hospital in the state capital.

The incident happened in the evening about 5 pm. According to officials, the building was being utilised as a godown. Rescue operation is underway, they said. The identities of the deceased are yet to be ascertained.

The three-storey building was undergoing some construction, the police said.

Senior administrative officers and police officials are onsite supervising the continuing rescue efforts.”Rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed to the scene and are working to extricate the trapped individuals,” said Relief Commissioner GS Naveen Kumar.

Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, has acknowledged the situation and is monitoring the rescue operations.
