Delhi 2-Day Traffic Alert, Muharram 2024: The Delhi Police has issued a detailed traffic advisory for the Tazia processions taking place across the city during Muharram, scheduled for July 16-17. These processions, integral to the observance of Muharram, will lead to significant traffic disruptions, and the advisory aims to help commuters plan their journeys accordingly.

A significant procession will commence on Tuesday, around 9 pm, from Chhatta Shahzad, Kalan Mahal. This procession will traverse through Kamra Bangash, Chitli Qabar, Churi Walan, Matia Mahal, Jama Masjid, Chawri Bazar, and Hauz Qazi before retracing the same route back. Concurrently, another procession will start from Old Police Chowki, Ashok Basti. This route will pass through Qutub Road, Khari Baoli, Lal Kuan, Hauz Kazi, Chawri Bazar, and Jama Masjid, also returning along the same path. Tazias from areas such as Nizamuddin, Okhla, and Mehrauli will also proceed directly to Karbala, according to PTI reports.

Processions will also be observed in various districts including East, Northeast, Shahdara, Northwest, Southeast, South, and West Delhi. On Wednesday, starting at 11 am, the processions will regroup, follow the same routes, and assemble at Kalan Mahal before moving towards Karbala, Jor Bagh.

Public Transport impact

Public transport will also be impacted. Buses on Desh Bandhu Gupta Road heading towards Ajmeri Gate and beyond will terminate at Aram Bagh and return via Chitragupta Road-Paharganj. Buses bound for the New Delhi railway station will also stop at Aram Bagh. Those heading to Connaught Place and Central Secretariat will take an alternate route via Rani Jhansi Road, Mandir Marg, Park Street, and end at Udhyan Marg, returning via Kali Bari Marg. Buses from East and Central districts to Connaught Place and Central Secretariat will be rerouted via Sikandra Road and will stop at Mandi House, returning through Bhagwan Dass Road-Tilak Marg.

The advisory highlights potential disruptions on major roads such as Mathura Road, Ma Anandmayee Marg, Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, Road No. 56 near Anand Vihar terminal, Pankha Road, and Najafgarh Road from Zakhira to Kishanganj due to local processions. Traffic regulation will be enforced on roads including Jama Masjid Road, Chawri Bazar Road, Ajmeri Gate Road, Asaf Ali Road, Panchkuian Road, the Outer Circle of Connaught Place, Rafi Marg, Krishna Menon Marg, Aurobindo Marg, Motilal Nehru Marg, Barakhamba Road, Janpath, Sansad Marg, Tughlak Road, Ashoka Road, K G Marg, Lodhi Road, and Jor Bagh Road from 12 noon to 9:30 pm.

The Delhi Police urges all commuters to plan their travel accordingly and consider alternative routes to avoid delays and inconvenience during these times.
