In a heartwarming moment, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Rampal Kashyap, a resident of Kaithal, Haryana, who had taken an extraordinary vow 14 years ago: to remain barefoot until Modi became Prime Minister and he could meet him in person.
During his visit to Yamunanagar on Sunday, PM Modi met Kashyap and personally helped him wear shoes, symbolically fulfilling the man’s long-held promise. The emotional encounter quickly drew attention online after the Prime Minister shared the story on social media platform X.

“In Yamunanagar, Haryana today, I had the privilege of meeting Rampal Kashyap ji from Kaithal,” PM Modi wrote in a tweet. “Fourteen years ago, he had taken a vow: ‘Until Modi becomes the Prime Minister and I get to meet him, I will not wear shoes.’”
The Prime Minister, touched by the gesture, also used the moment to offer a message of reflection and encouragement to his supporters.
“Today, I had the opportunity to help him wear shoes,” Modi said. “I deeply respect the sentiments of all such supporters, but I would like to humbly urge them to, instead of taking such vows, commit themselves to a cause that benefits society or the nation.”
Kashyap’s devotion had reportedly become well known in his local community over the years, with residents acknowledging his quiet commitment to the vow since 2010. For him, the moment marked the culmination of over a decade of faith and determination.
As the story circulated, it resonated with many across the country, drawing admiration for Kashyap’s dedication and for the Prime Minister’s grounded and thoughtful response. The moment, captured both in words and visuals, reflected the emotional connection Modi continues to share with grassroots supporters.
