Chhatarpur (Madhya Pradesh), Oct 8 (PTI) — A 24-year-old man, Bhola Ahirwar, accused of raping a 17-year-old girl, allegedly shot himself dead during a police chase in Chhatarpur district on Tuesday, according to a report PTI. The incident follows Ahirwar’s alleged involvement in the murder of the girl’s grandfather a day earlier.
According to police, Ahirwar forcibly entered the victim’s home in Mohara village on October 7, shooting and killing her grandfather while injuring the victim and her uncle. Following the incident, police launched a manhunt to apprehend him.
Inspector General of Police Pramod Verma reported that police received a tip-off about Ahirwar’s location in the Siddh Baba Pahadi area around 4 AM on Tuesday. By 9 AM, police had located him on a hillock and attempted to negotiate his surrender. However, Ahirwar fired two shots at the police, who then returned fire.
Police tracked down Ahirwar to a hillock around 9 AM on Tuesday and urged him to surrender. However, he fired two shots at them, prompting the police to return fire with four shots, according to the Inspector General.
“Realizing he was surrounded, the suspect turned the gun on himself and fatally shot himself with his homemade pistol,” Verma stated, noting that an investigation into the incident will be conducted.
Verma mentioned that Ahirwar had made a Facebook post, although he did not explicitly mention suicide. “The investigation will explore all possible angles,” he added.
In the post, Ahirwar claimed he was wrongfully implicated in a rape case and accused police officials of accepting bribes to frame him. Just a day prior, he had reportedly entered the complainant’s home, ostensibly to negotiate a compromise related to the ongoing rape case. The police had charged Ahirwar two months earlier after the girl filed a complaint of sexual assault against him.
