At least nine people were killed and 25 others injured when a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus overturned in Gondia district on Friday.

The bus, part of the “Shiv Shahi” service, was carrying 36 passengers and was en route from Bhandara to Gondia when the driver lost control while attempting to overtake another vehicle. The accident occurred around 12:30 PM in Davva village, located in Sadakarjuni taluka.

The injured passengers were transported to various hospitals for treatment. Police and district officials have visited the accident site.

Maharashtra’s Caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed his condolences and announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of the deceased.

He instructed the Gondia collector to ensure proper medical care for the injured, including the possibility of transferring them to private hospitals if necessary, with the state covering the costs.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also extended his sympathies and said that arrangements would be made to transport injured passengers to Nagpur for further treatment if required.

Senior officials are coordinating the relief efforts at the scene.
